Background

J-Factor is a successful gospel talent show, founded by a group of young professionals eager to see talented people encouraged and nurtured. This year’s forthcoming competition marks the third of its kind running since 2007.  J-Factor aims to discover, nurture and showcase the vocal talents of aspiring singers whilst providing them with a launch pad to the music industry; much of our activities are currently done under the auspices of Jesus House, London.

Our finalists

So far, we have featured fifteen talented finalists (from about sixty auditions) and produced two winners – Nwando in 2007 and Tito in 2008. The winner gets the chance to record a single record; Nwando recorded a single titled “Run to You” in Chicago USA, and Tito recorded a single, “Superman”, which was launched in July 2009 and is now available for online download via itunes. Runners-up have been approached by diverse interest groups – to record on albums, perform at functions, amongst others. As we continue to grow, we hope to extend the impact J-Factor provides by engaging finalists in a variety of talent management initiatives – which might entail workshops on song writing, worship, recording, etc.

J-Factor hosted Tito’s debut single launch party at central London bar on July 18, 2009. The event featured Deji from MOBO and UMA award Nominated neo-soul/gospel group 4Kornerz, GKReal’s soulful songstress Ayodele Edwards and unsigned but highly talented Willoe, whose mySpace page has received over 330,000 hits.

The show

The show usually sells out at 800 guests and runs for about 4 hours.  It is structured in 3 exciting rounds with the judges and audience playing an active part in voting process. Guest performance would usually be by the previous year’s winner amongst others.

Another young hopeful will take the mantle as this year’s winner at the finale on September 26, 2009. With a working partnership with Rockhill music, the recording label behind the Acoustic Gospel series and renowned gospel artists GKReal, the winner of the J-Factor 2009 competition will sign a recording contract for a debut single.
